SAINT LAURENT’S LARGEST FLAGSHIP STORE AT AVENUE MONTAIGNE, PARIS

With Hedi Slimane taking place as its new creative director since March 2012, Saint Laurent seems to be on an upscale tread. We’ve seen the brand coming up with plans to open flagship stores around the world. Last week only the French brand inaugurated its Berlin store, and now it is opening doors to its largest flagship store worldwide in Paris on 53 Avenue Montaigne. Housing both men’s and women’s collection from Saint Laurent, the store is spread over a sprawling 900sq.m area of retail space inclusive of two-floors.

The store flaunts a clean and upbeat look, a well-worked upon commercial space that has used white, black, and silver, color palettes creatively, with gold accents to pronounce the overall effect. It has incorporated full-length mirrors that further provide the store with space illusion. Design-wise the store has been taken to a contemporary, arty level that oozes of sophistication and style, rightly blending and projecting the brand imagery.
Other upcoming Saint Laurent openings have been planned at Greene street in New York, Rodeo Drive di Beverly Hills (pop-up), Sloane street in London and Alexandra House, Hong Kong

NIKE FREE 2013 INSTALLATION BY STUDIO-AT-LARGE

The sports apparel giant Nike teamed up with the Shanghai based practice of Studio-at-Large to create a futuristic installation as part of a one day launch event for their latest footwear product, the Nike Free. Located in the 798 arts district in Beijing, visitors are invited to experience a three zone design which will not only inform them about the history of Nike but also involve them in an artistic vision of an imaginary track event.

The first zone welcomes visitors to a series of triangular stands which display information of the history of Nike. The second is a facsimile of an actual track event of invisible athletes ‘wearing’ the newly launched line of brightly coloured footwear. The shoes are suspended to mimic various levels of movement and appear to be participating in an actual event. A dark mirror placed directly above the 5 lane track doubles the energy of the piece which, by a stretch of the imagination is being ‘applauded’ by the ‘spectators’ represented by a series of Nike garments on hangers.

The third and final zone is The Finishing Line, a row of benches on which visitors may sit and listen to a number of athletes talking about their sport. The shoe itself is a much improved design in terms of comfort and flexibility and features a unique criss-crossing body which references a Chinese finger trap. An installation intended not only for followers of innovative design but also athletes and enthusiastic Nike fans.

LOUIS VUITTON MüNCHEN BY PETER MARINO, MUNICH

French luxury label Louis Vuitton has opened a new retail location in Munich, Germany, tucked perfectly into the city’s historic Residenzpost. The three-story retail location was designed by renowned architect Peter Marino, who applied Louis Vuitton’s decadent aesthetic to the building, creating a luxurious atmosphere in one of Munich’s most iconic sites

This location will carry men’s and women’s apparel, watches and jewelry, yet will also feature special amenities such as custom bag service and house the brand’s line of writing instruments. Visitors can also expect an additional space by the end of 2013 – Espace Louis Vuitton München – which will host art exhibitions and collections.

SPAREPARTS FLAGSHIP STORE BY NATALIE CUTLER, CALGARY

After 10 years in Chinook Centre, we are proud to introduce the new Flagship shop completely redesigned head to toe by Cutler Design & Construction. The mandate was to create a space that appeals to a wide range of customers, and develop a solution to display the diverse product categories in a graphic and visually clean manner. This was achieved through a modern, minimal, black & white, almost residential vibe so the customer feels right at home.

The design has many influences, from mid-century modern to Scandinavian design while still feeling right at home in its Canadian environment. A few of our favorite features include the black & white “fake” breeze block graphic, the custom light fixture over the cash desk and the pops of bright royal blue on the fixtures. Spareparts now carries over 700 styles of sunglasses and an extensive collection of watch, bag and accessory brands. Spareparts also has a complete footwear program and a special “shop in shop” dedicated to their exclusive Farmfresh product line.
